Wheatfields Bakery Cafe

We go here every time we are in Kansas. Their bread and pastries are delicious. Their staff is friendly. Their sandwiches are a little expensive, but well worth it. Not a single item I've purchased there has left me disappointed.

Foods great, bread is great, didn't have to hear anything about why I was wearing jorts or my chanting in latin as I stood in line waiting for my turkey and cranberry sandwich. I think they understand that sometimes you have gods to appease with sandwiches. Solid place.

I was a first-timer and I asked them what their best breakfast dish was and the guy recommended their biscuits and gravy and I must say that it was the most incredible biscuit I've ever seen and it tasted just as good. The gravy was exceptional to. The biscuit was about as big as a bread plate and it was nice and soft in the center nice and crispy on the outer shell was almost like a pizza crust but far better.

Although Wheatfields is a treat I can seldom afford, I always enjoy it when I can. If you are Covid sensitive, distancing is not maintained in the line. However once inside I feel you are given adequate choice as to how near or far you are. Masks are strongly encouraged, but I feel they stop short of an outright requirement. Wheatfields uses a wood oven so their bread has a smoky flavor. The crusts can be a little tough if you are used to modern bread. The service was fast and courteous.

One of my top favorite restaurants in Lawrence. They baked they own bread and their bread is beyond words. I highly recommend trying PECAN RAISIN bread. It's one of the yummies breads I've ever had. The staffs are always friendly.

We love their Coconut Macaroons...they're absolutely awesome! We couldn't resist their Carrot Cake and Salted Caramel Brownies...plus, bought a couple of Chicken Pot Pies! Can't wait to go back and try more!

I'm a fan of deli sandwiches and worked at a deli for 4 years in my youth. I'm no connoisseur of deli sandwiches but I'm always looking for the next best thing. Wheatfields' Croque Monsieur is it for me. I haven't had anything there I didn't love yet. Do yourself a favor and try one of their cookies or desserts, too!

Always a pleasant place. Service is outstanding. Very clean facility. However, the staff or management never speaks to the customers. A good morning or welcome would be nice. Pleasant little chat. I really don't feel welcome.

Great coffee and pastries! Take a loaf of artisan bread home! Or walk all the surrounding shops. Plenty of places to dodge out of the rain!

My favorite place for breakfast when I'm in Lawrence. They also have great sandwiches and specials for lunch and dinner (if there are any left 🙂), although they close at 6:30. The bread is made on site and is delicious. It would be difficult to pick my favorite as I have seldom been disappointed with breakfast, lunch or dessert!! The people who work there are also great; friendly and willing to help.
