Strange Matter represents the deceptive, malignant aspect of corporate value signaling. DO NOT BE FOOLED! Located in the hip, trendy Eastside neighborhood an area, long known for its contribution to local BIPOC culture, Strange Matter has yet to employ more than one token black person per season and you would not see more of an example of euro-centric gentrification than if you were walking through Bed-Stuyvesant.
And I say this as a patron to this cafe for nearly 10 years! Repeatedly I have been racially profiled, harassed and been asked to leave all because I am black man.
Yes. Are the baked goods tasty. Yes. Is the coffee any good. Meh. But I know that I cannot to continue to support this bigoted business any longer.

They are phenomenal!! The donuts and coffee always taste fresh and warm :) SM also helped us cater for our grad student group and we’re I credibly patient as we figured out the process on our end. Highly recommend for events or a Sunday treat :)

Great coffee! Donuts are amazing! Consistency is important when running a restaurant and strange matter is a great example of that. You can always expect a great cup of coffee or pastries. I have worked with strange matter before and Cara is one of the hardest working people I've met. Can't wait to visit their new locations when they open! Keep up the good work!
